IAMX is an extremely extravagant solo project, founded
by Chris Corner.
I think it’s one of these things that either you love
or despise, nothing in between.
Chris admits that this project allows him to connect
with the world, play with who he really is, and pour his heart out. The concept
is to explore certain parts of a personality, which he’s not paying attention
to in everyday life. It’s also a visual, shocking and theatrical performance,
minding the distinctive stage outfits and body painting.
What can I say?
This is an artist with capital A.
And even though I do not normally listen to electronic
music, the stuff that he produces absolutely amaze me.
I’m not sure myself what fascinates me more – his
absolutely penetrating and striking voice, his sensibility when it comes to
writing lyrics in various topics, the sounds that he blends and puts together
which come out intriguing and mysterious, the psychedelic melodies just out of
this world, or the actual fact he bares himself, his feelings, emotions to us,
he shares with us his inner world.
Or maybe just that it’s painfully obvious that he
loves music, that it keeps him sane to compose.
Interesting fact: Although he’s originally from
London, he created his music in Berlin for 7 years. Recently he moved out to
Los Angeles, and there he recorded his newest album “Metanoia”.
What’s absolutely clear to me, is that he’s back after
two and half years of hiatus.
Two and half years of waiting for a new album, and
finally it is released.
Two and half difficult years for Chris, paid with
insomnia, despair, therapy.
In an interview, Chris said that at one point he
thought that music was the reason for the psychological hurt that he was going
through, and was considering quitting it all. But then he realized that it was
all down to his own choice. Music wasn’t the one trapping him, on the contrary.
He allowed the stress to overcome the joy of making it and that was the biggest
mistake.
Having emerged from extended period of healing and
introspection, Metanoia is born.
And I’m really glad. But I’m mostly happy and proud of
Chris.
For those who’d like to see/listen him live in Poland,
he’ll have a concert on 30 November 2015, in Warsaw at Klub Stodoła.
