A pink spider flows across the sky...

It's been 17 years today, since he passed away. Although it looks like it didn't change much. At the concerts of X Japan, there are still as many fans of hide, who cosplay (dress up) as him, as a kind of tribute. In Japan, fans have their own way to honour him. Asides from visiting and praying at his grave, the greater part of them gather together and watch a movie "hide Film Alive", which contains clips from his concerts, music videos and other things.
It's quite reassuring, that after all this time, there are people who are still listening to his music, and think of him as an inspiration.
He has been an influence for many jrock bands, such as Dir en grey, Nightmare, D'espairsRay, Mucc, etc
In 2008, his close friend and bandmate, Yoshiki, organized a concert "hide memorial summit", in order to commemorate the tenth year anniversary of his death.

He was far from being an ordinary person.
He was a noncomformist and he hated being labeled.
He was above music business and commercialization.
He was seen as a rebel, who had brought together people that felt alienated in the country, just like him.
His death is described as "the end of an era."

hide was extremely talented. He played the guitar with an ease, and this kind of nonchalance, that makes you wonder whether it was an extension of his limbs. He was blunt and wild on stage, he always gave everything he's got. He used to pay great attention to quality of his concerts, and his shows were full of surprises and creative adaptations.
You can rarely meet people with this much of artistic sensibility.
His lyrics are the best proof of that.

My body dances in illusion
A pantomime opposite of my heart
I bury the wounds which begin to open
In order to be myself
